The diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Benevento.〔(''Catholic Hierarchy'' page )〕 ==History== The first bishop of Telese mentioned is Agnellus (487). Having fallen into decay, the town was rebuilt in the ninth century. From the tenth century it was subject to the Archbishop of Benevento. In 1612 Bishop Gian Francesco Leoni (1508) transferred the episcopal residence to Cerreto Sannita. In 1818 the see was united to the diocese of Piedimonte d'Alife,〔(Chronology of Catholic Dioceses: Italy )〕 but it was re-established in 1852.
